CFY founded in 1965 by Dick Wachtler, Ted Johnson, Don McFarland, and Fred Fisher
Mission
“Children active in sports during the day — sleep well at night — and stay out of trouble.”
Goals
Expand sports programs. Create a permanent home/office. Provide an
endowment fund to insure perpetuity.
1987
In 1987, received lease to 16 acres on Belcher Rd. Was originally part of “Bicycle Trail to Bay”
1987/1990
Capital Campaign raised funds to develop and build 150,000 square feet
recreational and educational facility
1988
In 1988, developed Drew Street site with two baseball diamonds and soccer fields at Joe Dimaggio Complex (costs $600,000)
- Still there and used today
- Added UPARC to be included in the Long Center and move them from obsolete buildings
across Belcher Rd
1990

Long Center, Inc. Managed the Long Center
- Operations served over one million hours of use each year by citizens of community
- Served over 150 organizations each year that utilized the various facilities at the LongcCenter

UPARC’s multimillion-dollar budget serves hundreds of our community’s challenged children
and adults in their daily living/working activities - Prices
- A current subsidy includes the provision that all 18-year-olds and younger have a
membership of $44 per year regardless of residence (rather than $144 for residents and
$299 for others) - Swimming lessons: 30 mins, 4 kids per class, $10 regardless of residence
